Ancestry Testing: Who’s Your Daddy’s Grand Daddy and Beyond?

Groshan Fabiola asked:

It’s not often that scientific testing becomes the ‘in’ thing, but in recent years, a collective search for a deeper identity has driven large numbers of people to have ancestry tests taken.  Celebrities have taken to ancestry testing, and many notable actors have publicly shared the results of their ancestry tests.

Ancestry testing has recently become more popular as more and more people look for answers about who they are and where they come from.  While dna testing was once solely in the domain of fantasy and science fiction, it’s now become common for people who are serious about finding out their heritage to look for the answers buried deep inside their dna.

How does ancestry testing work?

Ancestry testing is a method of studying the dna, and the similarities between what is known as “markers”.  There are two ways to test ancestry, either through the male side of the family or the female side.  There are two different dna tests that can determine similarities on one gender side of the family tree.  It’s a fascinating world where mitochondria and chromosomes can say so much about who you are, and where you came from.  While the very technical aspects of the testing is beyond the average persons comprehension, the results can provide you with an accurate picture of who your ancestors were, anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand years ago.

Who might be interested in ancestry testing?

Anyone who has an interest in their own ancestry will benefit from an ancestry test.  Hobbyists who have spent time collating information about their family trees might enjoy studying the results.  What could be more special than supplementing your family tree information with some scientific evidence?  Ancestry tests are popular with African-Americans, who often have no way of tracing their lineage back beyond the slave transport.  With ancestry testing, some real answers can be found.

Exploring ancestry testing online

Ancestry tests are more in demand than ever before.  This means there is plenty of information on the internet about the technical aspects of testing.  If you would rather see the results for yourself, look up some of the various surname projects online.  If your surname happens to be Walker or Harris, have a look at the surname projects that have been started by distant relatives in an attempt to map the genes and history of these families.  The internet is an amazing tool for exploring your own ancestry!

Where do you go for an ancestry test?

Have a look online at the various options for ancestry testing.  There are three companies at the forefront of ancestry testing technologies.  No two companies will give the exact same result, as there are wide gaps in methods, equipment and overall technique. Depending on your budget and interest levels you can expect to pay anything from $100 to $500 for an ancestry test.

What could be more fantastic than finding family ties you never knew you had?  The many questions that you have about who you are, and where you come from, can be answered by an ancestry test.  What could be more fantastic than finding family ties you never knew you had, even if they are on the other side of the world.

Oprah Winfrey found out that her genetic makeup was similar to the Zulu tribe from South Africa, she has since been quoted as saying she felt a kinship with the people of this area.  Wouldn’t you like to find out where your roots really lie?

Remarkable Minerals : Calcium The Big Daddy

Helen Thomas asked:

Cancer research has excelled in the last two decades. We know that cancer tumors are very deficient in calcium the low levels of calcium predispose these cancer cells to spreading in the body.

Calcium is the key mineral in acid base balance in the tissue system of the entire body. Acne, the dreaded teenage disorder is spurred on by lack of calcium.

The skin, the largest eliminative organ of the body, gets its’ youthful tone from calcium levels. Smoking causes cancer, a commonly accepted fact but so does chronically low levels of calcium.

Along with other reasons low calcium levels are found in kidney, liver, brain and heart diseases. Arthritis is caused by imbalances in the nervous system, digestive system and immune system but the one common link is calcium absorption and level imbalances.

Calcium imbalances can lead to even irregular heartbeat patterns. Stress, the seed of so many disorder depletes calcium stores in the body. Ayurveda, the ancient medical science, still in use today teaches that the memory is stored in the bone.

Bone cells contain the greatest amount of calcium in the body where it is stored. To have efficient calcium absorption there must also be iron, magnesium, phosphorous, vitamins A,C, D and F and protein.

We need plenty of sunlight, exercise and rich amounts of magnesium and phosphorous foods( list of foods will be in other articles in Remarkable Minerals series by Dr. Helen Thomas) to complement the utilization of calcium in the body.

The highest nutrient values of calcium are found in prunes, broccoli, mung beans, fig, sesame and sunflower seeds, almonds, parsley, watercress, beetroot greens, white beans, olives, and dandelion greens.and wheat bran.

Not as high as first mentioned group but also good sources ae celery, barley, cabbage, snap beans, rains, black currants, pumpkin seeds, apricots, lentils, pear, and last but not least, brussel sprouts.

My favorites are raspberries, blueberries, grapes strawberries, coconut milk all great but do have lower values than the first mentioned.

Sunlight as I mentioned is essential for calcium absorption and certainly for bone fractures. There are two big no-nos drinking and smoking. If you do either of these you need to detox and supplement your body with high doses of liquid calcium minerals.Alcohol impairs the absorption rate of calcium to the nervous system and brain.

Calcium absorption is directly affected by beer, vodka, rum, whiskey, martini and wines. The human body can interact with alcohol efficiently especially if the health conscious drinker also consumes super doses of nutrients with regularity.

If the spirits are your thing be sure to eat almonds, apples and daces or apples with regularity plus take a vitamin and mineral supplement.

Calcium intake is essential to guard against fatigue and exhaustion. Fatty foods also block calcium absorption so too much French fries, deep fried foods, and fatty meats will interfere with your calcium use in the body.

The dreaded osteoporosis is a regular visitor to my office. It is common for woman between the age of 50 and 80 to come in worried about the health of their bones.

In todays world of stress and psychological challenges it is imperative to use liquid minerals and vitamins for easy absorption. 2007 © Copyright Dr.Helen Thomas D.C. B.A. All rights reserved in all countries This article can be republish with my copyright and links in every article.

Which are your thoughts on Milka Duno and Danica Patrick fight?

The man asked:

I think Danica is acting like a brat. She’s always making controversy, doesn’t matter if it is with Ryan Briscoe, with Dan Wheldon, or anybody. I think IRL should make her change her behavior, specially with the pit crew of other drivers.

Nobody has asked a Danica question in a while. Can’t let that go on anymore. I’m seriously wondering if she’ll ever win another race, never mind the championship. No matter what happens from here on out, she’s earned my respect by just surviving this long and going toe to toe with some of the best in the business. 2008 wasn’t kind to AGR compared to previous seasons.

Profile of a Sugar Daddy

Tom asked:

Sugar daddies keep becoming more popular. Everywhere from magazines to talk shows, you can hear more about them. Guys want to be them; women just want them.

But what is a sugar daddy? A sugar daddy is educated and successful. A sugar daddy is rich. A sugar daddy has a great home and drives fancy cars. A sugar daddy also dates beautiful women.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these characteristics:

1. A sugar daddy is educated and successful.

Though there may be differences from one sugar daddy to the next, you can be sure that the gentleman in question knows about business or politics, medicine or law. You can also be sure that he’s not someone who will settle for being anything less than his best. A sugar daddy doesn’t work for someone, he’s the boss; people look up to him.

2. A sugar daddy is rich.

Wealth comes with success. A sugar daddy doesn’t have to worry about living beyond his means. He’s got the money he needs to afford the best and isn’t piling up debt like the other guys. He wears designer clothes and shoes, a classy watch. He carries himself well. A sugar daddy knows what he wants and he goes out and gets it.

3. A sugar daddy has a great home and drives fancy cars.

Apartment living isn’t for the sugar daddy. Instead, he has his own expansive home that’s stylish inside and out. He’s got Italian leather furniture, a plasma TV and gorgeous art. His home is tastefully decorated on the inside and distinctly masculine.

Inside, you’re likely to find a home gym - a sugar daddy doesn’t need to spend time at the gym to stay in shape. And, if you look outside, you’re likely to find a well groomed lawn as well as a swimming pool or a hot tub.

In the garage, you might find a sports car - a Lexus, BMW or maybe a Mercedes. You might find a Land Rover or a Hummer. In some cases, you’ll find a variety of vehicles, all in top condition.

4. A sugar daddy dates beautiful, younger women.

A sugar daddy will often be seen at the city’s top restaurants. A bottle of expensive wine will be open by the table. They will be sampling from the menu - exotic salads, thick cut steaks, exotic fish dishes and, of course, decadent desserts.

He’ll be well-dressed. She will be younger, startlingly beautiful. But that’s not all that you’ll notice about her. You’ll notice that she’s wearing a designer dress that fits her perfectly. You’ll notice that she’s wearing expensive jewelry - no doubt gifts from her sugar daddy.

Both of them will be happy; both of them will have an air of confidence.

This confidence is a defining characteristic in a sugar daddy. This confidence gets him to where he wants to be. It motivates his success. It brings him wealth. And it brings him closer to the beautiful women in his life.

It’s this confidence, success and wealth that drive men to envy sugar daddies; it’s this confidence, success and wealth that make beautiful women crave a sugar daddy’s companionship.

Why do so many people think that Danica Patrick is such a poor driver?

vcxzzxcvvcxzzxcv asked:

It seems like most people on Y! answers that answer questions regarding Danica Patrick call her a “poor” driver, “average,” “talent-deficient,” or say that she under-performs in some way or another. Where do these opinions come from?

I have been watching Danica race for years and even though she is no Rick Mears or AJ Foyt Jr., she is DEFINITELY one of the top 5 or 6 drivers in the IRL. Can you name 6 drivers that are better. I mean, as far as I can see, she is right up there with Marco.

Wheldon, Kaanan, and Hornish may be better drivers, but not by much. I think these people on Answers are putting to much stock in actual wins. If you know how racing works, you would see that Danica had just as good a shot as anyone to win the Indy 500 this year. It all boiled down to when the rain started.

If you watch closely, Danica always puts herself in the best position possible with the car she has to deal with. Other drivers either wreck a fast car or squander away good position.

Daddy Didn’t Mean It!

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Mike Durand asked:

You’re sitting on the couch, enjoying your first cup of coffee of the day. The cigarette in your hand has given you a slight head rush, and you find yourself enjoying your cup of coffee and cigarette more than you thought possible.

Your kids are running around the house, demanding that you feed them breakfast. You tell them to wait and take another sip of your coffee. Knowing the routine, the kids decide to flick on their cartoons and settle in for the wait.

On the way by, one of the kids stumbles too close to your cigarette and burns himself. He screams in pain and clutches his arm. You notice a slight welt appear where the cigarette has burned him and you mash the **** out so you can tend to your crying kid. He gives you an accusatory look, as the tears stream down his cute little face.

Picking him up in your arms you say: “Daddy didn’t mean it! I’m so sorry.”

This is just one of the many mishaps that can happen to a smoker around kids. A cigarette is pretty much a smoking cancer stick, ready to do harm. This very same story has happened to thousands of smokers around the world. They claim it is only an accident—and it is—but it’s also a preventable accident.

Even if the kid hadn’t been burned, the second hand smoke from a cigarette is still deadly. Why smoke in the house at all? Why not take it outside?

But instead, most smokers will explain away this accident as an aberration, something that won’t happen again. Chances are it will happen again.

Smoking is legal, and it is your choice if you want to harm yourself, but most parents love their kids and would do anything to protect them. Yet, when faced with the choice of smoking outside, or inside where the kids are, they will choose inside.

Not only will the kids have to breathe in your second hand smoke, might get burned, but you are choosing to pass on your bad habit to your kids. Studies show that most kids, whose parents smoke, will smoke themselves later in life. It stands to reason that they will. Their parents are their role models, and you are sending the message that it’s okay to smoke, and it’s okay to do so around their kids.

It’s just a little food for thought. The solution seems easy, but the choice is ultimately yours. But take a little time to consider it. Think about the possibility of your little boy or girl crying because you burnt them. Consider the possibility of your kids growing up and smoking themselves, and I’m sure you’ll come to the right conclusion.
